Can a design attract more Chinese mobile phone buyers?

Understanding consumer preferences when it comes to buying a new mobile phones is definitely the million dollar (or billions of RMB) question for manufacturers here in China. Many have put lots of efforts into developing new designs and technology to meet the fast pace consumer demand for newer phones here. So coming up with the perfect phone is fierce competition here in China’s mobile phone market. In a recent national study conducted by ChinaPolling, consumers were asked questions regarding their purchase preferences for mobile phones including their purchase frequencies, types of mobile phone they want to purchase next and their budget. The stats show that the majority (36%) of the mobile phone owners would change their mobile phone within 1 year. When it comes to the actual time they would purchase their next phone, 36% of the consumers responded that they plan to purchase a new mobile phone within next 3 months.

iPhone – The Irresistible Attraction

With 1 out of every 10 unlocked iPhones being used here in China, Apple’s “Wunderphone” inevitably become the hottest mobile device of last few months. Its revolutionary design is gaining tremendous popularity among the fashionable here in China.

China Polling has been fielding a Mobile Phone Omnibus survey for the last two months and is following the buying preferences of consumer for their next mobile phone purchases. Unsurprisingly, over 65% have heard of iPhone, and among this group, more than 85% are willing to actually buy an iPhone if it’s available here in China. Obviously, this number indicates a strong demand for the iPhone, but what are the “iPhonephiles” looking for when it comes to making a purchase decision? Findings show that Battery Life, Memory Size, Style/Design are the top features when picking aå phone for all consumers. The difference between iPhone lovers and the not yet converted is all about branding. The non iPhone lovers prefer Music and Camera features rather than being wooed and indoctrinated by the hip Apple brand equity.

New Ways to Reach Electronics Shoppers

Step into any major electronics store in China and veritable teams of workers flock out of nowhere to move in for the kill. Nametags glint in the fluorescent lighting as employees shout news about their latest release and repeatedly ask the customer what he needs until he finally cracks under the pressure and surrenders his cash in exchange for an electronic device he wasn’t even sure he wanted. This phenomenon is not without cause: Chinese shoppers in electronic stores cited store personnel as the second most influential form of advertisement.

Celebrity selection plays a large role in branding, who is most appropriate to represent a product? Who will attract your target demographic or introduce your product to a new one?

Chinese celebrities play a large role in marketing and branding. Celebrities are idolized by their fans and influence consumer behavior, styles, and trends. Being able to make an informed decision on a celebrity for your product, if that is the avenue you choose to utilize, is obviously no small matter. In a recent study conducted nationwide we specifically focused on celebrities and their branding impact in China. Our final panel is composed of 2335 panelists mostly within the 23-35 age demographic, 68% male.

Countdown to the Beijing Olympics, Rising Expectations?

With less than 80 days to the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games, the fast-approaching event is arouses the enthusiasm of local Chinese consumers.They are eager to participate and get involved with all aspects of the upcoming Olympic Games, whether it’s showing their support for the torch relay, waiting in long queues for tickets or buying the menagerie of memorabilia.

What do Chinese consumers really think about the Olympics? China Polling has partnered up with CCTV.com, the official Internet and mobile platform exhibition provider within China to conduct an on-going national survey to study the consumer behavior before, during and after the games. In recent findings, stats shows that the top 3 concerns people have are crowded buses/subways, higher prices during the Games and environmental quality that may distract from the overall experience.

Cell Phone Market Shares

Trendy and stylish. Whereas these words normally conjure up images of underweight women strutting down the catwalk, people are also describing their mobile phones as such.

China Polling’s recent survey looked at four major manufacturers of cell phones (Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson) and the attitudes citizens of mainland China hold towards the images of these brands. According to respondents, Samsung dominates in terms of trend and style.

Web-Content Purchasing Potential

As the old adage goes, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him pay for web-content.” These words ring all too true in the ears of music, movie, and game producers as they pull their hair out, trying to figure out how to make internet users, equestrian or otherwise, agree to pay for downloaded web-content.

China Polling recently studied the web-content purchasing habits of 2,151 internet users in Mainland China to see who was paying for downloaded web-content and how these numbers could be expanded.

Glancing at the general population of this survey’s panelists, only 45% had ever paid for web-content. However, when analyzing those that had watched or listened to streaming content on their mobile phones, a remarkable 57% of panelists responded affirmatively.

Chinese Internet Photo Sharing Services

In a recent China Polling national study composed of 1931 panelists from all over mainland China, it was found that 99% of internet users forward pictures to friends, family and colleagues. Over 65% of them frequently.

Chinese Fast Food Environment Study

How to Reach a Beer Drinker

Drinking is part of culture in China, and there are few drinks as social as beer. At restaurants, while visiting friends, or just hanging out, beer is one of the most commonly seen drinks

In a recent national study conducted by China Polling, panelists were asked about beer.What they drink, how they drink, where they drink, what they talk about while drinking.In the end, our sample contained 2665 panelists, of those 714 claimed to love beer more than wine, bai jiu or other hard drinks.This also shows the prevalence of drinking in China, only 4.7% of our panelists claimed to not consume any alcohol.

Nokia #1 Mobile Phone for China and Super Girl

Nokia brand mobile phones are controlling the lion’s share of the mobile telephone market in mainland China.

In a recent on-going national study conducted by China Polling, internet users were asked their preferences on mobile phones. With mobile phones, being almost a necessity in modern China, over 99% out of nearly 2000 panelists reported that they own a mobile phone, with over half of them having used mobile phone technology for 5 years or more.
